Miracle In The Middle

When I knelt down in front of the young lady and opened my medical bag, it was just Valerie and me beside her. It didn't take long, however; for an audience to gather. I began gently dressing the burn wound on her foot, and the next time I looked up, all the other members of her family, who were suddenly very intrigued by my visit, were peering over one another to watch what as I was doing.

Night time quickly fell, and when the dressing was finished, Valerie and I continued talking to this young girl by the light of the moon. One reason for our visit was to tend to her medical needs, but the other reason was to address the spiritual warfare that we believed was happening because of the sicknesses she has experienced relentlessly one after another that are in no way connected.

When Valerie brought up this subject, the girl nodded in agreement and huffed in frustration as if she was aware of the reality of the battle. So Valerie began to tell her a story, and as she told it, the family once again gathered around to listen.

She told about the Israelites in front of the Red Sea and how God delivered them from their enemies by making a dry path through the sea. Instead of leading the people of Israel around the sea as a way of escape, he provided them a way right through the middle. Instead of going around it, they had to enter into deep waters. But God did not allow the water to touch them; instead he performed a miracle right in the middle of the obstacle in front of them.

In the same way, we often come face to face with a problem and want to go around it. But God doesn't usually call us to go around it, but to walk through the middle of it. For it is there that he can perform the greatest miracle. It is when we walk into deep waters with him that his glory is displayed most brilliantly. It is in the middle of uncontrollable circumstances that he shows up in power and manifests his presence.

"Can we pray with you?" Valerie tenderly and respectfully asked, fully aware that this girl and all the members of her family listening were all Muslims. They graciously accepted, and right there in the middle of a Muslim courtyard, we prayed aloud in the name of Jesus Christ.

We prayed for the presence of God and the glory of Jesus Christ to be manifested in her life. We prayed for God to do a miracle in the middle of her struggle. We asked the Lord to overcome and defeat any spiritual darkness by the blood of Jesus.

Just the power of his name has the power to save and heal.

Join me in this prayer for this young woman, her family, and the many like her who are Muslims seeking truth and relief from suffering. May Jesus Christ show up powerfully and miraculously in the middle of their sea, and may he reveal himself so mistakeably that many come to faith in him. May he also speak with the gentle wind of his Holy Spirit, leading Muslims to believe in the One and Only name of Jesus Christ.

  1. I am praying for her and her family and also for you to have more opportunities to talk with them and other Muslims about Jesus Christ, the One and Only. --Shirley Alvarado, Fayetteville, AR
