Still Writing
Thursday night, a several girls sat in a circle in a lamp-lit room. We gathered to encourage one another through song and sharing. A few girls had prepared their testimonies in advance and opened up before the group to talk about how God has been working in their lives. In between testimonies, we sang and worshipped together.
No lesson was given and no sermon preached, but I left that devotional knowing God more. The Bible is full of stories, from Adam to Noah and Gideon and Nehemiah and Mary and Paul. Although each story is about a person, the main character is always the Lord. The stories are really about Him because He is the one writing the stories in the first place. He is the center of the stories.
Just like we learn about God from the stories in the Bible, so we learn about God from the stories that God is still writing - the stories of our lives. The stories that were shared Thursday night beautifully reflected the greatness of God. Yes, the stories were about humans, but God was still the focal point, the main character, the glorified one. He was the one who was exalted and lifted high. As a result of women opening up to tell their stories, God was made more famous and better known.
God is the author of each and every one of our stories. You may have a story with a "bang" about radically coming to Christ or experiencing Him in dramatic ways. Or your story may be of a soft, gentle, and quiet coming to the Lord. You may have experienced all sorts of hardships, or you may have a seemingly picture-perfect life.
No matter what, you have a story. God began writing your story before you were born, and He is not even close to finished. This creative, plot-master Author is weaving words and events together to pen and illustrate a wonderful story for you, a story in which He will be honored and glorified.
So don't be ashamed to let others know what God is doing in your life right now. Place your hope in the fact that He is still writing. Be bold in sharing your story, for it is a testimony to the character of God. When you open up the pages of your heart and let the people around you read what God has written in your life, He will be better known.
